about Le Goute

An original etching after Adrien Ostade’s famous “La Goute” original printed in the 1600’s printed by Amand Durand.

Durand is famous for re-etching worn Rembrandt printing plates as well as other Old Masters like Durer, Van Leyden and others. This etching was published in a collection of his prints, “Eaux-Fortes et Gravures des Maitres anciens, Tirees Des Collections Les Plus Celebres” by Edouard Lievre and Georges Duplessis, 1875

About The Artist: Adriaen van Ostade

Adriaen van Ostade (Adriaen Hendricx) was born in 1610 in Haarlem. His father, Jan Hendricx, came from Ostade near Eindhoven, and his sons, Adriaen and Isaack, adopted this name as painters. In 1627, Adriaen was a pupil of Frans Hals, and, in 1634 joined the Lukas Guild in Haarlem of which he was later the head, in 1647, 1661 and 1662.
