About the artist:
Aublet was trained in the studios of Claudius Jacquand and Jean-Léon Gérôme. He exhibited at the Salon in 1873, and later received an honorable mention in 1879 and a third-place medal in 1880. He also received accolades internationally, and won a medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle. He received the Legion of Honour in 1890. He was the president of the Société des Artistes de Tunis, and did stereotypical portraits of Tunisian and Middle Eastern women.
Aublet's son, Louis Aublet, was an architect. He married Marie-Germaine Ablett, daughter of William Ablett.
