about Tete de Femme

This piece depicts the bust of a young woman rendered with stylized and elongated facial features in Italian artist Modigliani’s signature style.

Founded in 1948 in Long Island, New York, Alva Studios existed until the 90s. Its founder, Alfred Wolkenberg (born in Vienna in 1911) immigrated to the United States in 1939. He had many artists and designers producing reproductions of famous sculptures and ancient jewelry from various museums around the world including The American Museum of Natural History.

About The Artist: Amedeo Modigliani

Amedeo Modigliani was born on 12 July 1884 in Livorno, Italy. The serious illnesses he suffered during his childhood persisted throughout his life. At age fourteen he began to study painting. He first experimented with sculpture during the summer of 1902 and the following year attended the Regio Istituto di Belle Arti in Venice. In 1901, whilst in Rome, Modigliani admired the work of Domenico Morelli, a painter of melodramatic Biblical studies...
