About the artist:

Born in 1934, Benigno Gómez is a very well-known Honduran artist. Ten years after he finished his studies in the National Academy of Fine Arts, he was given the opportunity to continue his learning through a scholarship in the "Academia di Belli Arti" in Rome, Italy. His artworks have given him international recognition and he has had the opportunity to participate in individual and collective exhibitions in several countries. He has won many awards, diplomas, honorific mentions and recognitions. In 1977, the United Nations Organization chose one of his paintings "Las Palomas" ("The Pigeons") to be used for a stamp. Benigno Gómez has classified his paintings in the neo-figurative world, where reality is not expressed in a common way but with some sort of symbolism and allusion. Many of his paintings contain religious themes and others of the day to day life. He is recognized for his unique and varied use of colors and detailed shapes.
