About the artist:

Benita Sanders is a master printmaker, painter and pastelist who has lived on the Queen Charlotte Islands, now Haida Gwaii, for almost 40 years. From a first visit and solo kayak trip to the islands in the 60’s Benita has been captivated by the landscape of the north coast and in her work has captured its unique forms, contours, colours and light. Trained at L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, Chelsea Art School, London and the National Academy of “Belle Arti”, in Florence, Benita worked at the renowned Atelier 17 with S.W. Hayter from 1960-63, and Blackburn’s Printmaking Workshop in NYC from 1963 – 1973; she has shown in Paris, New York and Vancouver and her prints are in many prominent collections from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Museum of Modern Art in New York to the National Gallery in Ottawa and Art Gallery of Ontario.
