Cecil Smith's unique experiences working as a professional cowboy in his youth have allowed him to depict the lifestyle of cowboys and ranch hands with an authenticism unrivaled by other artists.
In this divided scene, cowboys on kitchen duty prepare the evening meal for the rest of the men, one of whom is inadvertently crying while peeling onions. Watched by the man behind him next to the makeshift wagon cart, the crying cowboy dries his tears on his collared shirt.
