An idyllic painting of the bustling Seine river in Paris, by French artist Charles Cobelle.

Cobelle was an accomplished French artist who studied under Marc Chagall and Raoul Dufy. Using the skills he honed in his apprenticeships with the masters, he developed a dedicated practice of capturing a million fleeting glimpses of Paris in bright colors and bold line work. This scene looks from one bank, likely the north bank near the Trocadero Gardens, across to the Eiffel tower and the homes lining the river.

About The Artist: Charles Cobelle

Born in Alsace - Lorraine France in 1902, Charles Cobelle (born Carl Edelman) lived and painted in Paris until the late 1920’s when he moved to the United States. Cobelle took his Bachelor's and his Master's degrees from the University of Munich and later studied at the L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. He also studied privately with Marc Chagall and apprenticed in the studio of Raul Dufy in Menton on the Riviera. In the time before...
