An American art pioneer in light art and luminist sculpture widely known for her neon, steel, aluminum and acrylic glass installations, Chryssa’s 2D and 3D works explore themes of advertising and place, especially New York City. This serigraph is signed and numbered in pencil, and comes from an edition of 300. 

About The Artist: Chryssa

Chryssa Vardea-Mavromichali was a Greek American artist who worked in a wide variety of media. Chryssa comes from a famous and once-powerful family from the Deep Mani. She herself has said, "I do not come from a rich family [but from] a family with good education (for example, one of my sisters studied medicine) and good exposure to the creative arts": This sister, for instance, was a friend of Greek poet and novelist Nikos Kazantzakis. About The Medium: Screenprint

A stencil process employing a frame on which silk or synthetic fabric is stretched. Stencils are hand-drawn or hand-cut and placed on the stretched fabric and act as a block out when the ink passes through the screen by means of a squeegee onto the paper, the non-stencil areas create the image. Also known as silkscreen or serigraph.
