About the artist:
Detroit born Dan Gardiner is a Madison artist who enjoys creating collages from images he finds in old magazines and illustrated books. He also creates many of his own original digital images to place in his work. Dan begins with a rough layout in Photoshop, playing with color combinations, and scanned photos of vintage ads and photos from his huge magazine collection.….He then transfers his digital design to canvas…Working quickly and intuitively, he constructs his final piece from a mountainous and disorganized pile of gathered scraps of paper. In 1987, Dan painted a deer on friend's garage door, and he has been a professional artist ever since. Over the years he has created numerous murals, sports art, and book illustrations. He also works with Autistic children in several Dane County school districts.
