About The Artist: Daniel Joseph Martínez

Martinez grew up in Lennox, California, a working-class area of Los Angeles County near Los Angeles International Airport. After high school, he attended the California Institute of the Arts, where he received his BFA in 1979. During the 1980s, he worked as a freelance photographer, and spent time working with Harry Gamboa Jr. and ASCO. About The Medium: Screenprint

A stencil process employing a frame on which silk or synthetic fabric is stretched. Stencils are hand-drawn or hand-cut and placed on the stretched fabric and act as a block out when the ink passes through the screen by means of a squeegee onto the paper, the non-stencil areas create the image. Also known as silkscreen or serigraph.
