Haddon, active (1884-1914). The canvas measures 20 x 14 inches and is signed lower right. In a beautifully carved period frame. David W. Haddon was a Birmingham-born artist who spent time painting in Newlyn, Cornwall perhaps inspired by other Birmingham (then Newlyn School) artists Walter Langley and Edwin Harris. Haddon though focused his work on the people of the Cornish coastal communities and painted close, head and shoulder portraits, typically of seafaring men and women.
