About the artist:
Edward Porter is a visual artist working primarily in printmaking media and drawing. Images related to the maritime environment have come from his focus on the meeting place of land and sea where he is continually fascinated by the unique drama of change present there. Living in rural Nova Scotia and teaching at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax has shaped his visual direction over the past 36 years. During this time his prints have been shown in regional, national and international exhibitions. He studied at the Yale School of Art and Architecture with Gabor Peterdi in printmaking, receiving an MFA in 1961. He has work in the collections of The National Gallery of Canada, The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, The Philadelphia Museum, The New York Public Library, The National Gallery (Washington, D. C.), The Canada Council Art Bank, Dalhousie Art Gallery and other university collections as well as many private collections.
