About The Artist: Emanoel Araujo

Emanoel Araújo, is an artist, collector and curator, and was born in Salvador da Bahia, in 1940. Throughout his artistic career he has received many awards among them the Gold Medal of the III Graphic Biennial of Florence, Italy (1972), and he was elected Best Engraver of the Year, 1974 and Best Sculptor of the Year, 1983, both awards made by the Association of Art Critics of São Paulo. About The Medium: Linocut

A printmaking technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of linoleum (sometimes mounted on a wooden block) is used for a relief surface. A design is cut into the linoleum surface with a sharp knife, V-shaped chisel or gouge, with the raised (uncarved) areas representing a reversal (mirror image) of the parts to show printed.
