A simple black and white watercolor painting by Emile Rampelberg.

Like many of his scenes, this Impressionist composition depicts a waterscape. In this case, several moored sailboats float quietly on a white expanse, their sails tucked away and held in place in the bay by several ropes surrounding the boats like a spider’s web. This painting is signed in the lower right by the artist.

Emile Rampelberg was a French textile designer and painter . Emile Rampelberg was born in Flanders and lived in Paris from 1918. From 1939 he worked as a textile designer. In 1942 he opened his own studio, which employed around 30 people and which he ran together with his brother Charles.
