Erwin L. Hess was an artist for the comic books published by Dell Publications from 1939 throughout the 1940s. He did artwork on titles and features like 'Ben Hur', 'Black Knight', 'Gang Busters', 'Mr. Distric Attorney', 'Roy Rogers', 'Thief of Baghdad' and, mainly, 'Danny Dash' (in War Comics). During the same period, he was an illustrator for juvenile books, as well as the artist of the 'Captain Midnight' newspaper strip, that ran from 1942 to 1945. In 1947, Hess started his cartoon series 'The Good Old Days', that he continued until 1981. In the 1950s, he additionally did artwork on Dell's 'Gene Autry' comic book.
