Fede Galizia was born in 1578 in Italy. She presumably learned to paint from her father, Nunzio Galizia, a painter of miniatures. By the age of twelve, she was sufficiently accomplished as an artist to be mentioned by the writer Giovanni P. Lomazzo. She painted miniatures and altarpieces.
