Acknowledged to be the dominant photographic influence on American fashion and beauty, Francesco Scavullo has photographed almost every celebrated man, woman and child in the world today. His photographs have graced the covers of magazines such as Rolling Stone, Life, Time, Town & Country, Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, Mademoiselle, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Harpers & Queen, L'Officiel, Woman and Max, to name a few. Francesco photographed the covers of Cosmopolitan for 30 years. He has shot many movie posters, including A Star is Born with Barbra Streisand. Francesco has also done many album covers. Edgar Winters', They Only Come Out At Night, is the first Rock & Roll cover with full drag make-up. Diana Ross' Diana album shows her with no make-up, wet hair, wet tee shirt, and torn jeans. Mr. Scavullo has published six books - SCAVULLO ON BEAUTY, SCAVULLO MEN, SCAVULLO WOMEN, SCAVULLO, SCAVULLO: PHOTOGRAPHS, 50 YEARS, and his latest, SCAVULLO NUDES. In addition to his published work, Francesco's photographs are in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. Francesco is renowned for his enamel on canvas photo silkscreens, portraits and still lifes. His commissioned portraits include Mrs. John Kluge and son, Gloria Vanderbilt, Mary Kay Ash, Mrs. Frederick Field, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman & Joanne Woodward, Sissy Spacek, Diana Ross, Cher, Brooke Shields, Madonna, Roseanne Arnold, Kim Bassinger, Barbara Streisand, Michelle Pfieffer, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwartzenegger among others. As a director, Francesco has created memorable spots for Shearson Lehman Brothers, Covermark, and Memorex with Ella Fitzgerald, as well as Crystal Gayle's one hour musical special for CBS. Francesco Scavullo passed away Tuesday, January 6th, 2004. He was 82 years old.
