Fred Aris is a British-born artist and a member of the idiosyncratic school of painting, with a style both naive and whimsical. Born in 1932, little is known about his background. He is rumored to have lived close to London and to have had a day job working in a roadside cafe, which may account for his love of cats often seen in his paintings. As an artist, he is not prolific, possibly because his work is meticulous in detail, most frequently using the medium of oil on board. Famously, he was commissioned to paint a portrait of Sir Winston Churchill.
