George Lockwood

About the artist:

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Lockwood attended Cooper Union, the New School for Social Research, and received his undergraduate and MFA degrees from Yale University. He taught at several colleges and universities including Smith College, Amherst College, The Massachusetts College of Art, and the Rhode Island School of Design. His work resides in the permanent collections of numerous museums and libraries, and in many private collections. Solo Exhibitions: Kanegis Gallery in Boston 1962 ; Hicks Street Gallery in New York 1963. Group Exhibitions: 10 American Printmakers at Syracuse Museum Gallery in 1962; Society of American Graphic Artists 100 Prints of the Year at AAA Gallery 1963; Prinmakers Show at Boston Musuem of Fine Arts 1960 Holdings: Museum of Modern Art; Library of Congress; Museum of Fine Arts; University of Massachusetts Publisher, illustrator of Homage to Redon, Gehenna Press, 1960; 16 Poems in Verse and Wood, poetry by Bernard Bockes, Cricket Press, 1962; Received citation of merit from the American Society of Illustrators in1960 for the Redon title. Commissions : 2 from International Graphic Arts Society; 1 from Delphic Arts; 1 seven-color wood engraving of Boston for the American Cities Series from Business Week in 1961.
