About the artist:

Georgeen Comerford received her B.F.A. from Cooper Union in 1969, and her M.F.A. from Brooklyn College in 1971, where she studied photography under Walter Rosenblum and Diane Arbus. Since 1972, she has been on the Brooklyn College faculty. She has had one-person shows at Gallery 1144, the Lehman Gallery, Soho Photo Gallery, and the Brooklyn College Art Gallery. Georgeen's work has been included in group shows at the milwaukee Center for Photography, and the Queens Museum. Her work is in the Library of Congress collection. For her contributions to women's studies, she received the Melani Grant from the Women's Research and Development Fund of C.U.N.Y. A Quote from the Artist: "Although the major portion of my commercial work is in the area of photo-journalism, I also work in other spheres of interes in my personal phography. By photographing three of four continuing themes at once, I find I can work with a "fresher" eye in each area. For nearly 20 years now I have photographed such diverse thems as the women's movement, Coney Island, The South Bronx, and landscapes."
