Jacques Deperthes

French (1936)

About the artist:

Jacques Deperthes is a French painter and printmaker best known for his realist depictions of desolate landscapes. Often featuring empty golf courses, rural villages, and barren winter trees, his works evoke a strange silence in the viewer, whatever the subject matter, due to their lifeless atmospheres and absence of human presence. Born in 1936 in Suresnes, France, he studied art in Geneva, Switzerland and had his first exhibition there in 1961. Today, Deperthes’ works can be found in the collections of the Musée de la Ville de Paris and Les Musées d’art et d’histoire in Geneva. He lives and works between France and Switzerland.
