About the artist:

Jarvis Wilcox is an artist of his times - his themes characterize his view of our worl. In a curious transmutation Life is strongly felt to resemble art. His approach converts the commonplace into occasions for contemplation. Sensitive to Nature, Jarvis captures on canvas the imagery of county scenes many of which are near his Eat Hampton home. His Direct observation of the subject are trancended by expressive coloration - dense, dark shadows 'neath an arched roof, a sunlitpath, grass, potato feilds in bloom, flowers lavishly painted against the the rough texture of a wooden fence - special brush strokes varied and blending, combined with a juxtaposition of colors convey the rich effect of varied lighting. Jarvis Wilcox takes possession of all his subjects, uniting the psychological and the aesthetic, revealing his absorption. His search for just the right elements to cast a new light on an obvious theme suddenly quilts the mind with new awareness making the moment memorable. From sunny street to seascape, a snow storm and a blooming forsythia, Jarvis Wilcox interprets in the most humanistic tone. ------------------------------------------------------------- One Man Shows 1979 St. Barthomew's Hoosac School, Hoosic, N.Y.
