From Risos' obituary in the New York Times, February 15th, 1992: Jean-Pierre Risos, one of the most promising French artists of his generation, died here Thursday at the age of 57. As a graduate of the school of Beaux Arts in Paris, he won the young painter's prize in 1957 and was second in the coveted Prix de Rome the following year. Mr. Risos died at his home after a long illness. He had worked for the International Herald Tribune since 1975 in the photographic department, while continuing to paint in his free time. His style evolved from abstract in the earlier stages of his career to an allusive form of figurative painting in recent years. He had several successful exhibitions in Paris, Britanny, Lyon and Spain. At the same time, he renovated a large farm house near Perpignan on the French-Spanish frontier, where he did much of his painting.
