Joseph Johannes (Jos) Rovers (Utrecht, December 15, 1893 - Amsterdam, October 7, 1976) was a Dutch sculptor, graphic artist, painter, draftsman, book binding designer, etcher, illustrator and teacher at an academy. He is the father of Anton Rovers. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp under the direction of Isidore Opsomer. His working period was from 1908 to 1976, in Haarlem to 1930 and in Amsterdam from 1930 to 1976. His subjects were: landscapes, nude figures, cityscapes, portraits, still lifes, winter landscapes and designing posters. For publishing house and printing company De Spaarnestad in Haarlem, he was a book binding designer. He was the winner of the Royal Grant, the St. Lucas Prize in 1939, and the silver medal of the city of Paris in 1955 at the Dutch exhibition. He was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam, (chairman 1946-1948) and of the Sint Lucas Association in Amsterdam and a teacher at the Rijksakademie of visual arts in Amsterdam.
