About the artist:

Josef Jackerson was born in 1936. He graduated from the School for Young Talents and Leningrad Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. During his studies, his works were exhibited at international exhibitions in France (1947), Germany (1958), and the World Youth Festival in Moscow (1956). Up to 1973, his works were displayed at a number of national (1960, 1965, 1971) exhibitions, as well as at various municipal and regional expositions. In 1973, the painter immigrated to Israel. From that time on, his works were displayed at many personal and collective exhibitions in Israel, the USA, Russia, Switzerland, and Australia. Several noteworthy personal expositions are listed below: · The Jerusalem Theatre (1974) The Herzliya Museum (1977) · The Ramat Gan Museum (1977) · The Nora Gallery (Jerusalem, 1977) · Twice at the International Christian Information Center (Jerusalem, 1980, 1894) · Twice at the Eduard Nakhamkin Fine Arts Gallery (New York, 1986, 1988) · The Three Painters Forum (Fine Arts Gallery, New York, 1986) · During the Israeli R.Ettinger Award ceremony in Van Leer Institute (Jerusalem, 1987) · The Marble Palace (Russia, St. Petersburg, 1992) · The Habima Theater during the Sunset performance (Tel Aviv, 1986). Jackerson has also been invited to work as a set designer. Today, Jackerson‘s works are on display in a number of museums and private collections, including: · Yad Vashem Museum · Herzliya Museum, collection of the Christian Information Center in Israel · St. Petersburg Museum of Artillery · Museums of Novgorod and Kirishi (Russia) · Vatican Museum of Modern Art · Private collection of Her Majesty the Queen of Netherlands · Private collection of D. Bosky MITRA Private Equity Ltd. (London, United Kingdom) · Vassar College Museum (New York) · Norton Dodge Museum collection (USA) · Eduard Nakhamkin Fine Arts Gallery (New York, USA) Jackerson has taught painting and drawing at Haifa University and Beer Sheva College of Arts and School of Arts. In 1979, Jackerson‘s article Artist on Art was published in The 22 Magazine issues 7 and 8. Basing on extensive factual material, the artist suggests and constructs the cyclic development scenario of world art by recognizing internal regulations of art per se. The paper analyzes artist – art, artist – society interactions at various stages of artistic development and cites Jackerson‘s ideas and thoughts on the issue.
