Joyce Roybal

(1955)

About the artist:

Artist, Joyce Roybal, sometimes listed as J. or James, memorializes the naive purity of childhood by painting whimsical children playing musical instruments or participating in sports. His character studies are commonly called Puffy People, and they're reminiscent of the work of Bolivian painter, Graciela Rodo Boulanger, a possible inspiration to Roybal when he was 18.

The artist, Joyce Roybal, however, is an enigma. Available biographical information is limited and conflicting with claims of both American and Italian origin and references to a female artist. Some state he lives in upstate New York, while others claim he also resides in France and Italy. There are no pictures or information in any newspapers or artist compilations, and no museums possess an original work. Joyce Roybal's oil paintings and artwork for sale have been available since the 1970s.
