about Memorial Tribute Invitation

This print was created as the invitation for Keith Haring’s memorial service which took place at the Cathedral of St.

John the Divine in Manhattan. Haring died in 1990 from AIDS. Many fellow artists and prominent New Yorker’s attended the service. The actor Dennis Hopper described Haring’s work on the subways, ’’Keith attacked the subway walls with the fierceness of a gunfighter or samurai warrior."

About The Artist: Keith Haring

Keith Haring was born on May 4, 1958 in Reading, Pennsylvania, and was raised in nearby Kutztown, Pennsylvania. He developed a love for drawing at a very early age, learning basic cartooning skills from his father and from the popular culture around him, such as Dr. Seuss and Walt Disney. About The Medium: Screenprint

A stencil process employing a frame on which silk or synthetic fabric is stretched. Stencils are hand-drawn or hand-cut and placed on the stretched fabric and act as a block out when the ink passes through the screen by means of a squeegee onto the paper, the non-stencil areas create the image. Also known as silkscreen or serigraph.
