Born in Chicago in 1900, Leo Maranz was trained in mechanical engineering and established himself as a prominent innovator in his industrial career. Maranz began his career in art as a hobby, having already made a name for himself in the field of engineering. Maranz invented the continuous soft ice cream freezer in 1949, and founded the Tastee-Freez corporation. Maranzs abstract designs on plexiglass, polysyrene, and handmade papers gained him international attention as a visionary of ultra modern art. In 1970 Maranz's paintings were featured in a Smithsonian exhibit at the Palm Springs Desert Mueseum.
