about Spring Walk

A vivid scene of a forest path leading down to a crystal-blue lake by French Pointillist artist Lucien Neuquelman.

This oil painting employs the technique first developed by Georges Seurat in the late 1800s and later made more popular by Paul Signac. Several small dots of different colors are placed directly beside one another and, at a distance, are blurred together by the eye to give the illusion of blended color. This oil painting is signed in the lower right and nicely framed in a carved gold-leaf frame. Provenance: Galerie Felix Vercel, New York.

About The Artist: Lucien Neuquelman

Lucien Neuquelman, French oil pointillist, began studying at the Art School of Toulon. He moved to Paris, and went on to meet French Fauvist Othon Friesz, of whom he became a pupil and learned both the colour theories of the fauves and the more sombre palette of Chardin, Poussin and Corot whom Friesz also admired. Particularly in Neuquelman’s work it is apparent that he had absorbed ideas of strong compositions and solid, voluminous forms....
