Makudy Sall is a painter. He comes from Senegal and speaks Tukolor, a dialect of Pulaar that is spoken by some semi-nomadic ethnic groups in the Senegal River Valley and in Mauritania. Makudy is sitting with his friend Ousmane in Ousmane's gallery in Harlem, where Makudy currently has a sculpture exhibition. Makudy has just had 20 postcards made of his latest pictures for people to buy. Beside picking a word for the 4 October issue of the New York Times, he has written "Come and eat!" in Tukolor.
