An impression from the book of Marc Chagall’s (Russian, 1887-1985) lithographs.

Published in 1960 by Éditions André Sauret, Monte-Carlo. From 1960 to 1974 Chagall produced 28 lithographs for the six volumes of the Lithographs Catalogue Raisonné.  This lithograph is one of Marc Chagall’s (Russian/French, 1887-1985) most famous prints. Featuring a bright overwhelming red and a larger than life mermaid standing on the beach.

Marc Chagall (7 July 1887 – 28 March 1985) was a Russian-Belarusian-French painter of Jewish origin, who was born in Belarus, at that time part of the Russian Empire. He is associated with the modern movements after impressionism. Marc Chagall was born Moishe Shagal ; his name was rendered in the Russian language as Mark Zakharovich Shagalov.
