Russian (1887–1985)
The Modern Russian artist Marc Chagall often took a very literal approach to naming his art.
The title of this unique tempera and gouache painting on masonite translates very simply to "Peasant Woman with Green Face". Chagall regularly depicted people with abnormal skin and hair colors, lending a psychedelic quality to his pieces, a quality that is further emphasized by visual movement produced from swirling brushstrokes. This beautiful original painting is signed by the artist in the lower right and on the verso and is framed in an ornated gold leaf frame. From the estate of Shepard Kogan.
