Although he was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Marcos lived and worked in Madrid and Ibiza after completing his studies at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. A master print maker for 26 years, he successfully turned to painting in 1988. He had numerous solo shows in Spain, Italy, New York, Washington, California, Columbia, and his native Puerto Rico. Group shows in which he participated include the 1989 Biennial of Graphic Art of Ljubljana, Yugoslavia, the first Biennial of Havana in 1984, and Arco, Madrid in 1981 and 1982. His work received many awards, including First Prize at the first Biennial of San Juan of the Latin American Print in 1970 and the Acquisition Prize of the Rayo Museum in Roldanillo, Columbia in 1983. His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in Madrid, the Skopje Museum in Yugoslavia, the Rayo Museum in Columbia, and the Ponce Art Museum in Puerto Rico, among others.
