Mr. Posey lived in Nashville, and his art has been exhibited nationwide, including in Denver, New York and New Orleans. His art is on display in Regency Fine Art of Atlanta and Sambuca Jazz Cafe clubs nationwide. Mr. Posey performed by painting before an audience as he listened to live music. Listed among his admirers are Maya Angelou, Vince Gill and Morgan Freeman. Mr. Posey was born Aug. 28, 1964, in Fort Bragg, N.C. His father was a captain in the Army and was transferred to Fort Campbell. Mr. Posey attended Clarksville High School and entered an exhibit at the Knoxville Museum of Art. After high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps reserves and spent a summer in boot camp before enrolling in Austin Peay State University's graphic design program. He graduated in 1985. In 1997, he was honored as an outstanding Austin Peay alumnus. Sallie Ellis bought some of Mr. Posey's art when he was a struggling young artist in Clarksville. "He used to go around to people he knew and sell (his art) out of his car," she said. "We've truly lost a talented and creative man. For such a short life, he really did produce a lot. The works are appreciated and will live long after he's gone." "Marvin Posey will be sorely missed, but his art will live forever to give us color for the eye and music for our soul," publicist Jacqueline Nilsen said in a news release. "Marvin's death is a great loss to not the arts but to the entire community. He brought much joy to all of our lives. I know he will be remembered that way."
