Korean (1958)
Inspired by his mother's sparkling purses and glitzy costumes on television, Sang-Kyoon Noh was drawn to the sequin as his medium of choice.
After a near-death experience as a child and the realization that he could perish without a purpose "as if a fish without scales is doomed to perish." This overwhelming feeling was translated into the sequins, which give an appearance of scales. At first glance, this work appears flat and static, until you move closer and the reflections of the sequins change with the light.
