Set against a deep purple background, the work featuring the red figure of Pablo Picasso's daughter, Paloma, and the blue figure of his son, Claude, sitting together while Claude sketches is a remarkable compilation of perspectives and angles.

While using his own children as subjects, the artist manipulated geometric planes and shapes to allow the viewer to see the subjects through more than one angle. Pablo Picasso was born on October 25, 1881, in Málaga, Spain. The son of an academic painter, José Ruiz Blanco, he began to draw at an early age. In 1895, the family moved to Barcelona, and Picasso studied there at La Lonja, the academy of fine arts.
