about Galerie Beyeler-Bale

Facing the right, the woman in this Pablo Picasso poster advertising for the Galerie Beyeler-Bale Picasso exhibition of 1967 is a fine example of the artist’s Cubist portraits.

The focus of the poster is the painting "Femme a La Montre", originally painted in 1932 to depict the artist’s lover and muse Marie-Thérèse Walter. Wearing a watch and hat that matches her dress, the partially-exposed woman is rendered through multiple perspectives and is reduced to colorful shapes. The original painting of this piece was sold in 2023 for $139 Million, making it the second most expensive work by the artist ever sold to date.

About The Medium: Lithograph

A print created using flat stones or metal plates. The artist creates a lithograph by drawing an image directly onto the printing element using materials like lithograph crayons or special grease pencils. After this, the drawing is transferred from the plate to the paper in multiples. A lithograph will not have dots when examined with a magnifying glass.
