Plein air landscape artist, Paul Strisik, was born in New York but lived and painted most of his life in Rockport, Massachusetts and Santa Fe. He received his formal art training at the Art Students League in New York, studying there with Frank Vincent Dumond. Strisik was a master painter of transferring the light and color he saw in nature to the canvases he created. He was equally at ease working with oils or watercolors and most frequently sketched his subjects in the outdoors, later creating larger works from them in his studio. Paul was a nationally acclaimed painter with membership in many organizations including the National Design Academy, the National Academy of Western Art, the Hudson Valley Art Association, the Rockport Art Association, Oil Painters of America, The Guild of Boston Artists, the New England Watercolor Society, and the International Society of Marine Painters. He authored two books on oil painting techniques and is the subject of several other books including the recently published book entitled The Life and Art of Paul Strisik, N.A. Articles about the work of this highly sought after artist have appeared in many publications including Southwest Art, Art of the West, North Shore Life and Artists of the Rockies. Strisik is quoted as having said, “God’s light on a blade of grass is such a miracle, and so difficult to capture in paint; it is worth a lifetime of trying.” This remarkably kind and gentle man and outstanding artist died July 22, 1998 at his home in Rockport. Paul Strisik, NA, AWS (1918 - July 22, 1998) was a prominent US plein air painter. He was born in Brooklyn NY, but lived most of his life in Rockport, MA. He worked in both oil and watercolor. His art education began at the Art Students League of New York with Frank Vincent Dumond. Paul was a member of many American art organizations, including the Rockport Art Association, the North Shore Arts Association, and many others. He was an Academician in the National Academy of Design. His paintings are in many museums, corporations and other prominent private collections. Paul is the author of several books on painting, including The Art of Landscape Painting, and Capturing Light in Oils, published in 1995. Paul Strisik is building an impressive auction record; his paintings are highly prized and are relatively hard to find. Though primarily known as a 'Rockport' artist, Strisik produced a significant body of work based on the Southwest. He maintained a winter home in Santa Fe from 1976 to his death.
