French (1969)
This work by Paul Vinet uses gold leaf to withdraw context from the image.
The figures are merely floating in space, without a location or time. Vinet does this to imitate medieval art, where gold would represent divinity. This fulfills the idea of God being omnipresent and all around us, even as we mill about in the street.
