About the artist:

Born in 1904, painter and printmaker, Philip Reisman emigrated to the United States from Warsaw, Poland at the age of four. He attended the Art Students League where he studied under George Bridgman, William Morgan and Harry Wickey. He completed a mural for the Works Progress Administration at Bellevue Hospital and he was on the original board of control and faculty for the American Artists School. In 1979 and 1980, a three-month exhibition of Mr. Reisman's work from the 1960's and 1970's appeared at the Museum of the City of New York. In honor of the show, Manhattan Borough President Andrew J. Stein proclaimed Nov. 13, 1979, to be Philip Reisman Day. In 1982, the artist was elected an Academician at the National Academy of Design. A book about him, "Philip Reisman: People Are His Passion," by Dr. Martin H. Bush, was published in 1987 by Wichita State University. Reisman was a member of the Artists League of America, the American Artists Congress and An American Group. He participated in exhibitions at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Print Exhibition and the National Academy of Design. Reisman's work is also represented in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington and the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, among others.
