About the artist:

French painter, etcher and illustrator Pierre Georges Jeanniot was born in Geneva in 1848. He began his artistic education with his father who was a longtime director of the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Dijon. Jeanniot had his first exhibition in 1872 at the Paris Salon, establishing his reputation as an artist of military scenes. He settled in Paris in 1882 and during the next three decades, he illustrated a number of books, including “Germaine Lacerteux”, “Tartarin de Tarascon” and “Les Liasons Dangereuses”, among many others.He was a contributing artist to "La Vie Moderne" and was the Editor of Journal Amusant. He was awarded the Chevalier de la Legion d’honneur from the French Government in 1906. His etchings and paintings exhibit great originality and collectors of his art included Pissaro and Degas. “Le Polo (Spectateurs au Polo)” is one of Jeanniot’s most well known original etchings.
