about Tiled Lunch Counter

Focusing on the three men seated at the countertop and the waitress with her back to them, Ralph Goings employs photorealism to share an idyllic image of a classic American diner.

Facing away from the viewer, the three patrons represent the community present at restaurants such as these.

About The Medium: Screenprint

A stencil process employing a frame on which silk or synthetic fabric is stretched. Stencils are hand-drawn or hand-cut and placed on the stretched fabric and act as a block out when the ink passes through the screen by means of a squeegee onto the paper, the non-stencil areas create the image. Also known as silkscreen or serigraph.
