About the artist:

Count Regley de Koenigsegg was born in Paris in 1823 and died in 1904. He started his career in the Navy in 1839 on the frigate Atlante and was one of the first white men to visit Easter Island. He graduated from special military school in 1843. The Count fought in North Africa, Italy and Germany and was taken prisoner at the Battle of Metz in 1870. He was released in 1871. He then retired as a Brigadier General in 1885, and Commandeur de la Legion d'Honneur; received many citations and decorations. In 1851 he did pencil sketches and then tried other media: etching, sepia, watercolor, etc... In 1895 he began to paint small reproductions, in watercolor of posters - the advertising of the day. He compiled a large collection of linen covered notebooks - each with it's own design. The original works you find on this website are original watercolors from his notebook circa 1894 - 1904.
