about The White Cockade

This intimate engraving by Robert Alexander Hillingford depicts an interior estate scene where elegantly dressed women and a young boy gather near a window, creating a moment of domestic tranquility and social gathering.

Created in the Romanticism tradition of 19th-century narrative art, Hillingford’s detailed line work captures the refined atmosphere of Victorian-era interiors and the quiet dignity of family life. The composition features women in period dresses seated within a well-appointed room, characteristic of Pre-Twentieth Century explorations of domestic spaces and social customs. A charming example of Hillingford’s engraving work that showcases his ability to render intimate interior scenes with warmth and historical authenticity.
