Robert Indiana (1928-2018), first envisaged this graphic version of the word "ART" in 1970 as a museum poster for an exhibition at the Princeton University Art Museum.

He would continue to recreate this image, just as he did with the infamous LOVE. This print was conceived for Edition Domberger's "On the Bowery" portfolio, which paid homage to famous street in lower Manhattan.

About The Medium: Screenprint

A stencil process employing a frame on which silk or synthetic fabric is stretched. Stencils are hand-drawn or hand-cut and placed on the stretched fabric and act as a block out when the ink passes through the screen by means of a squeegee onto the paper, the non-stencil areas create the image.
