About the artist:

Roger F. Smith was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1961, and lived there until embarking for the University of Tennessee in the early 1980s. Subsequently, Roger moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and resided there until moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 2000. Roger holds a BA and MA in Speech and Hearing from University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a MBA from Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, Georgia. Roger, a self-taught artist began painting in the mid 1990’s. His early work centered on pencil sketches and acrylic paintings, mostly florals. Roger also experimented painting on glass vases and bowls. During the 1990s Roger’s art was featured in several Nashville, Tennessee art exhibitions, including Artrageous, which was Nashville Tennessee’s annual AIDS fundraiser. Throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s Roger’s artistic skills began to take a stylized approach. He migrated to oil paints and his style became more abstract, with defined subjects leaning to similarities with Monet and Le Pho. Additional artistic works include watercolors and photography. In 2019, Roger self-published two art collection books: Multicultural Artworks- An Original Collection and Multicultural Artworks II-A Perspective. Roger joined forces with Companions For Heroes, a nonprofit organization, which pairs companion/service/rescue dogs with veterans. Partial book sales of Multicultural Artworks-An Original Collection help fund Companions For Heroes, two important causes to Roger. Book two, Multicultural Artworks II-A Perspective; which, Roger dedicated to his mother, Saranell, is his way to increase public awareness of Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. In 2020 and 2021 Roger published two additional books: Multicultural Artworks III, which is dedicated to bringing awareness to victims of mental, physical and verbal abuse and animal abuse; and Reflections Through Art and Prose, which brings awareness to the United States military and wounded veterans.

Roger is currently working on book five, Kaleidoscope, with the intent to bring awareness to individuals with speech, hearing and visual impairments and the physically handicapped. Roger has donated artwork to Chattanooga’s Memorial Hospital and Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Additionally he has donated artwork to several churches and businesses. In addition to domestic art placement, Roger has artwork in India, Italy and Zimbabwe.
