This etching of Adam and Eve is from a suite of artworks that Salvador Dali created as an homage to German Renaissance painter Albrecht Durer.
This piece is in reference to an etching created by Durer of the same name (an example is shown in the photos). In the Durer piece, fine details show every part of the Genesis story whereas, in Dali’s rendition, it has been stripped back to basic details. The snake and apple, the branches covering the couple, and a mouse and rabbit at their feet are all that carry over in this surrealist impression.
