The following, submitted August 2005 and reviewed 2017, is from the artist. Born 1941 in Joliet, Illinois, Stanley Dean Edwards moved to Chicago early in life. His mother was a Chicago public school teacher, and his father was a Methodist minister. He studied painting and design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, receiving a BFA in 1967.
