About the artist:
Stephen Weiss best known as the partner of Donna Karan was a talented artist and designer. Weiss, who was an accomplished sculptor and painter, married Karan in 1983. Together the couple set up the fashion house that bore Karan's name, and worked to build it into the international empire that French conglomerate LVMH agreed to buy for $643 million earlier this year. It was Weiss who negotiated licensing agreements during the company's strong growth period in the Eighties and, in 1992, he designed their first fragrance bottle, based on the curve of a woman's back. In 1995, he stepped down after two years as co-chief executive of Donna Karan to work full-time on his art, but he remained in the frame as a business adviser to his wife. After the company was sold to LVMH in 2001, Weiss and his wife flew to a secret island to renew their wedding vows during a private ceremony.
