About the artist:
Steven D. Gagnon was born in Fort Pierce, Florida in 1973. He studied in Europe for over a year while attending Pepperdine University. Upon his return to the United States, he studied for three years under artist, Natalie Nijinski. At age 22, he was granted an artist residency at Art Center South Florida in Miami Beach. Since 2005, this Miami based artist has created large scale multi-media works in Berlin and New York City as well as his hometown. Over the last decade, Gagnon has exhibited his work internationally in various museums and galleries. His serigraph, „The American Way“ was shown at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C. The piece was written up in Wall Street Journal and later published on the newsstand cover wrap of Harper’s Magazine. It was featured in a national touring group exhibition that went to the Naples Museum of Art, the Palm Springs Desert Museum, the Museum of American Numismatic Association, the Blanden Memorial Art Museum, and the Fresno Metropolitan Museum. The artwork gained further mass exposure by being posted on a billboard that travelled throughout California as well as in New York City and Miami. In 2006, his work was displayed at the Brogan Museum in Tallahassee, FL and published in „Ping Pong,“ the literary journal of the Henry Miller Library. Gagnon has been invited to participate in number of international exhibitions. In 2003, he exhibited at Paradies Projekt, an exhibition of over 200 international artists in a German WW II bunker underneath Alexanderplatz in former East Berlin. In 2005, he exhibited his „Eins Werden“ video installation in front of the KunstFabrik during the Berlin Kunstherbst, a city wide exhibition for contemporary art. In 2007, he was invited to present his Taxi video project at ArtCologne. This and his previous video sculpture „Time Machine“ have received much publicity when they were presented at Fountain Miami, PalmBeach3, PalmBeach!, and Fountain NY 2007.
